The CHEC Dialogue on Sustainable Urbanisation and Human Ecology

CHEC is excited to announce the publication of Governing Board Member Michael Mutter, OBE’s The CHEC Dialogue on Sustainable Urbanisation and Human Ecology. In recent years, The Commonwealth has renewed its emphasis on issues surrounding “Sustainable Urbanisation” and its impact on citizens and communities in cities across the Commonwealth. At the 2022 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held at Kigali, Rwanda, the following ‘Call to Action on Sustainable Urbanisation’ and the accompanying Declaration was agreed among member states.

In 2024, the Commonwealth Human Ecology Council (CHEC) has undertaken a series of projects and programmes that reinforces its long-standing and deep understanding between people and where they live, particularly with the ever-rapid growth of cities across the Commonwealth, citing the methodology of Civic Diagnosis as a way in which communities can engage formally in the processes of city planning and design in conjunction with their elected municipal authorities and national government criteria. The Dialogue is captured in a series of books authored by Michael Mutter OBE, the CHEC Governing Board member for human settlements, published on the CHEC webpage here.

The ‘CHEC Dialogue’ is a remarkable programme of success with relevance to the world’s concern for communities and the growth of their cities across the Commonwealth as illustrated in CHEC long history of interventions in cities. The full publication can be accessed here.
