Earth Day 2022 - How To Get Involved
We hope you're excited because we are! Earth Day 2022 is this Friday 22nd April. It's an important day in the annual calendar as the world comes together to champion the planet we live on. There are campaigns, in-person and online events, activities and actions we can all be part of to take part in this Earth Day and the days that follow. Read on to find out more about Earth Day 2022 and how you can get involved!
What is the theme of Earth Day this year?
Before finding out how you can get involved it's good to know what the theme for this year's Earth Day is. Therefore, without further delay, the theme for this year is: #InvestInOurPlanet.
This specific focus has been chosen to get businesses around the world on board with the changes that need to occur for us to fight the climate crisis. Drawing on recent studies, the Earth Day website demonstrates how innovation occurs faster with the inclusion of the private sector and climate change is something that needs to be acted on now, and quickly.
How Can I Get Involved in Earth Day 2022?
Fortunately, there are a number of ways you can be part of Earth Day 2022. It doesn't matter where you are or what time zone you're in - there's something for everyone.
In-Person and Online Events
With Covid restrictions lifting around the world, there are a number of in-person and online events taking place to commemorate Earth Day. Climate Crisis: What Can We Do? An Earth Day Lecture

As part of their Adult Education Series, Monmouth University have an online event designed just for Earth Day. The class is taught by Heide Estes and will cover many aspects of the climate crisis including how individuals can take action, how to talk about the crisis with friends and family and voting with the climate in mind.

Beyond COP26 | Earth Day: Invest in Our Planet

This partnership event hosted by United Nations House Scotland, United Nations Association Scotland, and United Nations Association of the United States of America brings together representatives from civil society and the public sector to discuss the progress made since COP26 and how grassroots organisations can work together more effectively in implementing the goals of the conference.

If you're unable to join an event but would still like to get involved there are lots of ways to support Earth Day. The list of activities you can take part in is almost endless and the beauty of this if that these can be done in groups or individually. Activity ideas include:
Joining an existing or organise your own community cleanup
Join a tree planting group or plant your own
Start a compost pile in your garden
Pick up rubbish when you're out running
Switch to reusable bags
Make the switch to online billing
Support organic food or start to grow your own
Not all activities need to be physical either. Education is key the climate change fight. This Earth Day 2020 you could commit to learning something new. For example,

Support / Volunteer / Donate
Another way to get involved in Earth Day is to support any of the organisations working in this field. There are many ways to support an organising and they don't have to include money.
For example, simply sharing an article from a website like our own goes a long way in supporting us and the positive messages we have to share. As does subscribing to our newsletter, below.
Similarly, many organisations are looking for help in terms of volunteers. However, without asking you'll never know of the potential opportunities that may be on offer.
