CHEC at CommonTies London Event 2018

On Wednesday 14th March 2018, members from the CHEC team attended and took part in this years Commonwealth CommonTies event at the Royal Overseas League in Central London. This years event took place with around a month to go until the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). It presented Commonwealth Accredited Organisations the opportunity to come together to discuss with event attendees the goals that this year's CHOGM event is looking to address, namely:
  • A More Sustainable Future
  • A Fairer Future
  • A More Secure Future
  • A More Prosperous Future

After setting up the CHEC event stand, members of the team spoke with attendees from a number of different sectors with ranging interests on how their work can interlink and connect with human ecology. Everyone then moved downstairs where we were treated to an exceptional talk by former World Champion Geoff Thompson. He gave a passionate and inspiring talk on the importance of youth within the Commonwealth. After Thompson's speech a panel was tasked with further discussing the goals above. The speakers included Tiffany Daniels, Vijay Krishnarayam, Cat Leggat and Arif Zaman. Each gave excellent talks and insights and were followed-up with superb questions from the audience, allowing for an interesting discussion surrounding many key points within the Commonwealth Family.CHEC thoroughly enjoyed the CommonTies event and hopes to be a part of the event going forward into the future. Next up for the CHEC Team is April's CHOGM event. CHEC will have representatives at both the People's Forum and the Youth Forum so be sure to come and speak to us to find out more about what we do!
