Statement from CHEC following the death of the Queen

Her Majesty The Queen meets CHEC’s recently retired Secretary of 35 years, Eva Ekehorn, at a reception at St.James’s Palace.

The Commonwealth Human Ecology Council (CHEC), and its members, are truly saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Lasting more than 70 years, The Queen’s reign is leaving behind an immense legacy. As Head of the Commonwealth, Her Majesty placed great importance on the spirit of friendship, humanity, values and shared principles the Commonwealth stands for, indeed The Queen’s signature on its charter will always endure.

The Queen travelled the Commonwealth widely and in doing so demonstrated her support for its now 56 independent countries, however small, its peoples, its animals, forests and wonders of nature encompassed within its many borders. Such interest demonstrates everything that human ecology involves. Members of the CHEC Board, including its late founder, Zena Daysh, and its current Chair, Mark Robinson, had the honour not just to meet her, but to discuss matters of great relevance to Commonwealth activities and the feeling of family the organisation embraces. Her Majesty’s involvement will be greatly missed around the world.
