Scotland takes office as Secretary-General, Announces Action on Climate Change

CHEC is delighted to congratulate Rt Hon Patricia Scotland QC on becoming the Commonwealth Secretary-General. Scotland took office on April 1st, and CHEC looks forward to working with her. Scotland has pledged to tackle climate change, and in a meeting at Marlborough House earlier this month described it as 'the most severe global challenge facing our generation'. After the historic Paris climate agreement at COP21 in December 2015 Scotland has planned a series of high-level talks to deliver the reductions in carbon emissions necessary to abate global warming.Speaking to the existential threat faced by all small-island states, Fiji's High Commissioner, also present at the meeting, described the 'frightening' threat facing his country and wider region. 'The emergency is now, so the solution must be now. There is no more room for excuses!'
