Marine Rubbish - A challenge to share

In CHEC's most recent Journal, Silvia Merlino talked about the work of the SeaCleaner project at the The Institute of Marine Sciences of the CNR (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche) in Italy. The project gathers data on the presence, type and amount of marine litter in the coastal area around the "Pelagos Sanctuary", a particularly sensitive marine area in Mediterranean sea, where different kinds of cetaceans, such as the Mediterranean whale, live. Their work contributes to a growing understanding of the scale of plastic artefacts being distributed into the Mediterranean. In this documentary, Silvio and his colleagues describe the challenge presented by plastic waste and how their work can help develop frameworks to protect marine life.
