Getting to Know CHEC's Volunteer
Ebba on the way to CHEC’s office in Fulham, London.
During the first half of this year, Ebba worked as our volunteer. She assisted the team with a range of tasks. She introduced the monthly newsletter, helped developing CHEC’s social media channels and wrote several articles for our website and Journal. We had a chat with her to hear her thoughts of how it was to work at CHEC.
How was it to volunteer for CHEC?
It was such a fun experience! The team is wonderful and they were so welcoming to me. I really felt like I was part of the CHEC family after only a couple of weeks.
How was an ordinary day for you?
I spent one or two days a week at the office. During those days, I got to hang out with the staff, participate in meetings and work with my communication tasks. I had a lot of Earl Grey during those days, which was fun for me as a Swedish girl who has grown up only drinking strong coffee.
I also got to represent CHEC in gatherings with other Commonwealth organisations, which was very interesting. There are so many Commonwealth organisations, and it was fascinating to see how they support each other.
What do you remember most from your time at CHEC?
My favourite memory probably is when I first got to hold on to our Journal. It had just arrived from the printers. I had been part of the editorial team and written some articles in it, which was such an honour.
What would you say to those who are thinking of being a volunteer?
Just go on- do it! It is an incredible experience and you will be part of a wonderful team. You will also be working for a sustainable future, which is something to be proud of.
