Event Description: The UK is hosting COP26, where it seeks to unite the world to tackle climate change. Will we see meaningful renewed commitments to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement? Or will it be more ‘blah, blah, blah’ from our ‘so-called leaders’, as Greta Thunberg said at the Pre-COP Youth4Climate conference. Dr Wassim Dbouk, Marine and Maritime Policy Research Fellow and member of the Commonwealth Futures Climate Research Cohort, will join us live from COP26 to report what has been happening. Fatima Ali, Sustainability Officer for University of Southampton Students’ Union and final year BSc Geography student, will offer reflections from being at the first week of COP. Ian Williams, Professor of Applied Environmental Science, and Simon Kemp, Professorial Fellow in Education for Sustainable Development, will join the discussion and then respond to questions from the audience. Event Description: The EVERYTHING NEEDS TO CHANGE public lecture series builds on the recently published book of the same name (ebook in the library) and it has been carefully developed to provide thought-provoking discussions for and with architects, and urbanists, all built environment professionals and researchers as well as students. The lecture series supports and is aligned with the Urban Planning Design IV course (chaired by Professor Panu Lehtovuori) and the Societally Responsive Housing Design course (chaired by Associate Professor Sofie Pelsmakers).The talks also take place in the run up to COP26, which is the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference, held in Glasgow in November. After this, an internal discussion with teachers, researchers and students and ACAN is proposed (date to be confirmed), to create a plan for positive action. The lecture series will focus on turning climate anxiety into climate action. Join us for the tenth talk 'How can we reimagine living environments?'!
