Remember, all the podcasts link to nature in some way giving plenty of variety. For example, the new podcasts focus on a range of topics relating to nature. They include topics such as organic gardening and climate change. Without further ado, let's take a look at the 5 great nature podcasts to listen to in 2022.
The Organic Gardening Podcast
The Organic Gardening Podcast is the first podcast on our list in 2022. The podcast comes from Garden Organic, a charity that focusses on the belief that "organic growing is essential for a healthy and sustainable world." The Organic Gardening Podcast is hosted by Chris Collins and Sarah Brown. Episodes are usually released monthly and last anywhere between 20-60 minutes. If you are looking to get into organic gardening there really is no better place to start. The monthly episodes cover everything you need to be doing in the garden each season. Episodes are also extremely informative. Previous episodes have discussed the importance of soil, climate change mitigation and a host of other topics like the insect apocalypse and determining how green your garden centre is.
America Adapts: The Climate Change Podcast
America Adapts: The Climate Change Podcast is an American podcast that specifically focusses on the adaptation aspect of climate change. Based on the fact that "We need to start adapting now", America Adapts presents the latest scientific climate change adaptation news and information. Host Doug Parsons covers key topics surrounding the climate crisis and welcomes esteemed guests from various backgrounds such as Dr. Victoria Herrmann, Dr. Michael Mann, Associate Professor Andrew Rumbach and Professor of Law Maxine Burkett. Episodes are released frequently and usually last anywhere between 30-90 minutes. America Adapts: The Climate Change Podcast is a great listen and is bound to have covered something of interest to you. Previous podcasts have addressed climate change reparations, the climate fight after Covid-19 and how the #MeToo movement meets climate adaptation.
TILclimate Podcast
TILclimate Podcast is an award-winning podcast that "breaks down the science, technologies, and policies behind climate change, how it’s impacting us, and what we can do about it." MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative produce the podcast which features discussions with real scientists and experts. There are currently 3 seasons of the TILclimate Podcast. The first two seasons featured 9 episodes with a bonus episode. Season 3, which ended in November 2021, featured 7 episodes. Episodes are on the shorter side (10-20 minutes) meaning quite complex topics are simplified making understanding much easier. It's a great podcast to get background information on a number of topics before delving further into what interests you most. Previous episodes have covered topics such as tree planting, sea level rise and removing CO2 from the atmosphere. Season 4 is yet to arrive but there's plenty to catch up on in the meantime.
Emergence Magazine Podcast
The Emergence Magazine Podcast is a real mix of excellence. Released weekly (every Tuesday) the podcast features "exclusive interviews, author-narrated essays, contributor conversations, fiction, multipart series, and more." The Emergence Magazine Podcast sits at the intersection of culture, ecology and spirituality. Therefore, it differs in many ways to the other podcasts on this list. It provides a totally different way of connecting with and learning about nature. There are hundreds of superb episodes to get lost in with episodes typically lasting between 30-60 minutes. Recent episodes have considered reseeding the food system, finding joy in the unknown and the voices of birds and the language of belonging.
For What It's Earth
For What It's Earth is another excellent podcast that looks to make "big issues bite-sized". Hosts Emma Brisdion and Lloyd Hopkins help make the science easy to understand and look specifically at what can be done to make a difference. So far, For What It's Earth has produced 69 episodes which generally range from 35-55 minutes long. The topics covered so far are extremely interesting and vast. Past episodes have looked at conservation in Africa, eco(ish) home renovation & redecoration and the implications of drinking tea and coffee. It's a guarantee that there will be at least one episode that is of interest to you!
